The guys were out exploring a nearby large arroyo and found a beehive in the bank. It was within drone mating distance to my mating nucs. Since we don't know the lineage of the stockline I went in to do a live removal. The queen was found. She had a very feral look about her, her offspring were nice and docile. I caged her and took out brood that I saved into three deep frames. The worker bees were vacumed up and taken back to be be united with the brood. The hive will rest for a few days then I will go in and kill the queen (she is still caged) and requeen with one of our stocklines. As many drones as I could were destroyed, an excluder put between the bottom board and box ensures any that I missed do not get out to mate. Some pollen stores were also transferred, but no honey, they must have been using it up as fast as they were bringing it in.
